Research Portfolios FAQs

Q: Why should I fill out the Research Portfolio outline form?

A: The form we are inviting you to fill out will be an integral part of the Mass General Research Portfolio. It will help promote your science, increase internal & external visibility of your work, therefore raise your chances to participate in program proposals that will resonate with collaborators, donors and industry.

Q: Where can I find samples of completed forms?

A: Download sample portfolios (example 1) (example 2)

Q: What kind of figure should I use for the outline form?

A: Please provide a graphical abstract that best summarizes the essence of the research (e.g. a figure you would use in a review paper to illustrate the general research idea or approach).

Q: If I have more than one research theme in my lab, should I submit multiple outline forms?

A: Yes, please submit a separate form for each research theme.

Q: Should the content be in scientific or layman language?

A: The Research Portfolio should be made understandable to non-specialists, since the form will be viewed by readers from a variety of backgrounds and environments (e.g. industry research & business development, philanthropy, general public, etc.). The most important thing is to define the problem (e.g. a clinical unmet need) you are trying to solve with your research.

Q: Can I include proprietary information in the outline form?

A: No, please only include non-confidential information in the form
